An outstanding educator will possess many different qualities.  The educator needs to be patient and empathetic with their students.  Not all students will learn at the same pace or have the same needs.  The teacher must embrace the concept that you cannot put a “round peg into a square hole.” Too many classrooms design instruction around one delivery method.  The educator needs to design their instruction building off of the strengths of their individual students.  Contrary to most schools of thought, an educator can be flexible and yet be consistent.  Unexpected circumstances can and will arise, and the educator must be prepared and flexible enough to deal with those situations while remaining consistent with his or her expectations and objectives of the lesson.

An outstanding educator must prepare their lessons to be able to incorporate and modify to meet multiple learning styles, so the lesson reaches all students not just a select few.   The educator keeps themselves updated and informed to meet the demands of an ever-changing world to ensure that they are giving their students every opportunity to achieve success.  

An outstanding educator will see themselves as a student, and stay educated not only in their field of expertise but also with the changes and advances in society allowing themselves the opportunity to understand what the students face every day growing up in today’s society.

An outstanding educator embraces the opportunity to be the primary contact with the students’ parent or guardian establishing a positive relationship.  Through diplomacy and courtesy, the educator can build an open and active dialogue with the parent or guardian thus allowing strong communication in all situations that may arise with a student in the classroom.

In closing, an outstanding educator must possess many qualities.  However, the most important quality is knowing that it is not about having those qualities – it is about knowing when they need to utilize each specific quality for the success of the students.
